An 18-year-old man has been arrested after a 17-year-old girl was stabbed to death in an attack that also seriously injured her mother.
Police were called to the victims’ home in Cefn Forest, South Wales, shortly after 7am on Thursday morning.
Neighbors were woken by sirens, helicopters and banging doors as squads – including firearms officers – arrived on the scene.
The girl was found lying in a pool of blood and was pronounced dead at the scene, while her mother, who is 38, was taken to hospital.
The suspect, from nearby Newbridge, is being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Chief Inspector Philip O’Connell, the senior investigating officer, said: ‘We can confirm that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident having previously made this arrest.
‘We understand that reports like this can be concerning, and it is likely that residents will see an increased number of officers in the area as we continue to investigate.
‘If anyone has any information, please contact our officers or contact us in the usual manner.’
