ESPN’s Jorge Castillo reports this that the Giants agreed to a one-year deal with Arraez. Added Daniel Alvarez-Montes from ElExtraBase that Arraez will receive $12 million through 2026 and is expected to play second base.
Arraez had reportedly considered several offers earlier on Saturday, preferring a return to second base. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports this that Arraez had turned down several multi-year offers to go to San Francisco to return to the Keystone.
Luis Arraez an intriguing matchup for San Francisco Giants
Arraez, a three-time batting champion and three-time All-Star, had another solid performance in 2025. He posted a batting line of .292/.327/.392 over his 675 plate appearances for the Padres, hitting eight home runs and 30 doubles while stealing a career-high 11 bases.
The Giants could be a perfect fit for Arraez. Oracle Park has been the second-hardest park to hit a home run in for the past three seasons (park factor of 82, league average is 100). However, the Giants’ home is the sixth-best park for singles (park factor of 104) and the eleventh best for doubles (park factor of 102). That history fits the type of player Arraez has been throughout his career.
A one-year deal may not mean the Giants are a one-year stop for Arraez. Third baseman Matt Chapman had signed a one-year, $18 million contract with the Giants in 2024 before agreeing to a six-year, $151 million extension. If Arraez can perform at his usual level, the well-traveled infielder may also find a home in San Francisco.
