Giant pacer wins his ninth race

What was expected to be a confidence-boosting run turned out to be a winning run for nine-year-old pacer Deny Everything (A rock and roll dance) today at the Peter Heyrick Memorial Mobile Pace in Ascot Park.

From the outside of the frontline driver, Kirstin Green watched the early action unfold and with Sky Patrol in the lead, Deny Everything took last place. While most of the field raced off the inside running line, Green was able to save ground, stick up the inside and land four back on the inside.

“They were running along a little bit and Amber (trainer Amber Hoffman) said he needed a confidence run,” Green said.

Blair Orange, riding Sky Patrol, made sure there were no soft sections and with Step It Up A Notch at his wheel the pace stayed high.

“Having ridden him once before, he sprinted really well that day. I hoped the gaps would open up and they did.

When second favorite Munroe’s Mate started to feel the pinch, Green was able to move to the outside. Under a hard drive, Deny Everything got over and headed for the line with ears pricked, running down a brave Sky Patrol to win by a length, with Herb half a length back in third.

DENY EVERYTHING, REPEAT

The winning time was a smart 2-38.0 for the 2200 meter mobile – a kilometer pace of 1-55.5.

The win was the gelding’s ninth in just forty-seven starts. He started his career with Mark Jones, who won seven races with him. As a five-year-old he won four of his six starts and seemed destined for top races. However, due to leg problems and a number of wind surgeries, he missed his six-year-old season completely.

After finishing his race ahead of Jones, Deny Everything was sent south to be trained by Graeme Anderson and Mike Love. He won for them once.

He has been with Hoffman for over a year now and has achieved four seconds and a third in the time leading up to today’s win.

The giant pacer last won on this course in June 2024 when he was trained by Anderson and Love.

“He’s a wonderful big horse to ride. He doesn’t tighten the reins and does what you ask him to do. He only does what he has to do. I gave him a shout and he took off.”

Today’s win brought his betting winnings to over $100,000.

The other highlight of the day was Winton leader Brent Barclay riding four winners: Anita Mary, Bring On The Muscle, Always Be Bootie and Side Hustle.
