Namibia captain slams ICC, claims India gets special treatment in 2026 T20 World Cup
Ahead of the Group A match in Delhi on February 12, Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus has stoked a fresh controversy by openly questioning the International Cricket Council (ICC) and suggesting that India be given special treatment in the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup.
Expressing concerns over the training facilities, Erasmus said Namibia was not given night training for Thursday’s match against India, while the hosts reportedly had two night training sessions at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

The Namibia captain also said teams like Canada would also be allowed to have night training, sparking fresh debate over whether all teams are being treated fairly by the ICC during the T20 World Cup.
Gerhard Erasmus not happy with ICC
Gerhard Erasmus was quoted by the New Indian Express: “We didn’t get any night training for this match; I don’t know why. I think India has two night training sessions, and I see outside Canada there is a night training session. Make of that what you will, but we will just get up and do our Namibian way, which is to fight.”

Namibia in particular had a disappointing start to their 2026 T20 World Cup campaign, losing their opening match against the Netherlands by 7 wickets on 10 February in Delhi. Their remaining group matches are against the USA on February 15 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and Pakistan on February 18 at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
India is gearing up with intensive netting ahead of Namibia’s clash
Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team is focusing on their own campaign. Following their narrow victory over the USA in their first Group A match, the Men in Blue held an intensive two-hour training session at the Arun Jaitley Stadium before their next matches against Namibia and Pakistan (February 15).

The practice session was intense and very planned. Pacers and spinners trained separately and focused on their own plans to deal with the slow and tricky pitches expected in Colombo, where they will feature in the much-awaited match against Pakistan on Sunday.
Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah return to the nets
In a major development, Washington Sundar returned to the side after recovering from a side injury and had a long spell in the net. Sundar’s return strengthens the team and gives India more bowling options.
On the other hand, Sanju Samson also spent extra time in the nets and worked hard against spin. He focused on improving his technique for slower throws. There is another boost for the defending champions as Jasprit Bumrah returned to training and bowled at full intensity after missing the first match against USA due to illness. Bumrah is likely to play against Namibia.
