Gentile Double helps Steelers Beyond Flames | Pro hockey news

Derek Gentile scored two on his debut for Sheffield Steelers, while new faces Jordon Southorn and Cliff PU also achieved debut goals. While the home team achieved a 5-2 victory over Guildford Flames in the Challenge Cup in the Challenge Cup

For a bumper crowd from 8,009 in the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, the Steelers dominated the first period, with the lion’s share of possession, but the side was shot after shot and it just couldn’t touch it. Five minutes of the time of the Yorkshire were rewarded, Brien Diffley took the first goal of the stalkers of the season in competitive action. The puck was at the top of the fold after a clambering, poking home through Diffley and over the line of a flame as they tried to erase.

Guildford opened their account only three minutes in the second: a defensive breakdown for the Steelers when Jake Coughler for a Steelers player squeezed and fed the puck to Cole Ully who shot home. The goal and a poorly timed powerplay -broken off for a faceoff -brings the momentum firmly on the Guildford side despite a different advantage of Steelers. The flames picked up another PowerPlay late in the second frame that they could not convert in the last minute.

Two goals in less than four minutes waved the game in favor of the Steelers. Derek Gentile finished on a 2-on-1 hurry of a Mikko Juusola Pass to bring the score to 2-1, only a few moments after the Flames had enjoyed their own chances and then struck again at 44:21 to make the hosts two.

Coughler’s good content goal seemed to have had the flames back in things with just less than nine minutes to go, but a beautiful drag and shot from Jordan Southorn brought the hosts back 53 seconds later. Cliff PU turned the scoring of 40 seconds afterwards to make the final phase comfortable for the home team.
