The preparations for Great Britain for the IIHF World Championship 2026 have been confirmed, participating in two IIHF European Cup of Nations Tournaments this season in November (Poland) and February (Edinburgh)-surpassed by a four-game series against Italy in April and May.
It is with great excitement that the first stop of our British games since the 1990s will be in Edinburgh for a first game in Scotland. Murrayfield has been a pillar of Scottish hockey development, organizing domestic competitions at top level, juniors and events shaping the talent base that GB teams feeds.

The collisions between GB and Italy are the newest episode of great hockeyyration. Both teams provided promotion to the top division earlier this year in Romania, where GB Gold won and Italy won the silver medal with second place.
Old boards, new chapters
Murrayfield is not only a location on the schedule, it is one of the places where Hockey of Great Britain learned to be itself. From the buzz of the era of Murrayfield Racers to the contemporary capitals, Scottish Rinks – and in particular Murrayfield – GB have been GB for generations of GB from scorers, players and even elite officials.
The Tony Hand born in Edinburgh lifted the ceiling what could be a British player; Derek Reilly made winning routine in this building; And Moray Hanson put standards in stripes that formed what the game is called.
In addition to greats of FIFE, Glasgow and Dundee – Gordon Latto, Colin Shields MBE, Stephen Murphy, Jimmy Pennycook – Scotland has been a constant thread in the GB sweater.
The hosting of the IIHF European Cup of Nations in Murrayfield brings that heritage to the present: the same final signs, the same sound, but a new generation that is preparing for the top division. It is an opportunity for Scottish fans to see GB on home ice, in an ice rink that helped to produce people and the culture that brought us here.
After GB’s Stop in Edinburgh, the team starts their four-game series with Italy for the brilliant fans of Milton Keynes and Nottingham.
