Gazans flee ‘Death and Destruction’ without transport or shelters

On average, the journey to the south costs more than $ 3,000, according to the UN Palestine refugee office Nerrenteit is out of reach for many.

Along the densely populated Coastal Al-Rashid Road, thousands of residents are in line to escape, after Israeli military evacuation, in a debilitating trip to the central and southern parts of the enclave.

A One news Correspondent was there and documented scenes of suffering such as displaced persons made the journey on foot.

While some dragged carts with their possessions, others – including women and children – tried to take a break after long hours of walking.

The Gaza Valley Bridge in the Central Gaza Strip is overcrowded because of the inflow.

‘All houses and neighborhoods were bombed’

In the middle of the crowd, an older man named Abu Wige Siam, his stick slowly walks in his right hand with his wife, Zakia Siam, on the left. He is exhausted.

“I am from the Tal Al-Hawa district in Gaza City. They have not left a house or neighborhood except to bomb it,” he said.

“The shelling continues and they dropped leaflets that orders us to evacuate. We walked six hours because we could not find a car or transport.”

Zakia Siam spoke about their non-stop trip after the shelling had lowered their house to rubble.

“We went to the Shujaiya district, and then we were displaced at the Sha’Af district in Gaza City before it was bombed,” she said.

“Then we went to the coastal west of Gaza City and my husband and I stayed there for two nights without a tent. We sat on the sidewalk next to the tents and hid next to one of them and then kept walking.”

Death, destruction and destruction

Another burger, Mrs. Um Shadi al-As-Sashkar, wore a bag of possessions while she went to South Gaza.

“There is death, shelling, bombing and destruction of houses (in Gaza City),” she said.

“Even if they had dropped leaflets, if there had been no shelling, no one would have left Gaza City, they would have stayed in their homes. But there is dead and destruction.”

‘I lost 25 family members’

Ayman al-Khatib told One news That most of his family members were killed in the Tal Al-Za’atar neighborhood of Jabalia Camp in the North.

He fled alongside a few surviving relatives. His aunt held his arm, as if she was afraid of losing him too.

“More than 25 members of my family were killed: my children, my wife, my mother, my brothers and their wives,” he said. Only his aunt, two nephews and one son stay.

“We fled under the bombing and we could not find any transport. They asked us 2,000 sickles to get into a car, but we don’t have the money. We didn’t have a tent or something. I made many phone calls and supplications, but no one responded to me.”

According to UNRWA, the average costs of relocation to the south are $ 3,180 per family. Fuel is scared in Gaza, and no hiding places have arrived for seven months because of the Israeli blockade.

Last month, Israel announced that it would take over control of Gaza City and intensified the bombing of high -rise apartments in recent weeks.

The UN office for the coordination of humanitarian matters (Ocha) said that more than 250,000 people were displaced from the city alone in the past month, including 60,000 in just 72 hours, because troops spent to densely populated neighborhoods such as Sheikh Radwan and Tal Al-Hawa.

Hundreds of Palestinian families continued to flee Gaza City in the north of the enclave via the overcrowded coast Al-Rashid Street, amid a serious shortage of transport and rising travel costs, while Israeli military operations persist in the city.
