Gauff Rebounds in Montreal despite serving misery

Montreal – Coco Gauff made a winning return to the competition on Tuesday evening, although some old serving misery came back with her.

Gauff had to overcome 23 double errors to win for the first time since the French Open Final, with fellow American Danielle Collins 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (2) open in the second round of the National Bank open, superfluous.

Gauff had not played anymore since he lost in the first round in Wimbledon and seemed to have made a change in her serving hold during her time. She struggled with it during the competition and hit a number of SERVES that were good long and others who were soft and were easily beaten by the powerful collins.

“It was a frustrating match for me,” said Gauff. “I felt that I was practicing well and then I don’t think I transferred it today, but hopefully I got my bad match from the tournament out of the way, and I could come back stronger the next round.”

A Balky -Serve ended its US Open title Defense last year, when she committed 19 double errors in a loss of the fourth round Emma Navarro. The serve was even more irregular on Tuesday, although Gauff struck a good one to end the game with an ace.

She is the best seed in Montreal because of the withdrawal of the top-ranged Aryna Sabalenka, the player Gauff defeated the French Open in June. Gauff will be confronted with Veronika Kudermetova in the third round and said she had a lot left after the game that lasted two hours, 55 minutes, and added that she could cut that in two if she cleans her serve.

“I felt that I played well except that part of my game,” said Gauff. “But I felt like I was playing pretty well.”
