Larger motorhomes simply fit better with their needs. Then there is the difference in performance. Diesel engines usually last longer and are more powerful. They also have a larger tow capacity and better performance up and down on mountain roads. First RV buyers, on the other hand, are often attracted by the campers by the first sticker price. Diesel campers are more expensive than gas -controlled campers in the same class, sometimes much more expensive, such as in $ 100,000 or more. If you take into account how much more expensive the average diesel repair is compared with that of an ice cream, the gas-driven option can be especially attractive for the budget conscious. There have probably been several RVERs who were enthusiastic about finding a good diesel installation, just to get away from dealers much less enthusiastically when they saw how many more expensive diesels are. The reason for this difference is partly due to the greater complexity of a diesel engine. Diesel engines have more advanced emission control systems to meet the regulations and require special fuel system components. Diesel engines also require heavier chassis due to the weight of the engine.

You probably already know that diesel vehicles are getting better fuel consumption than vehicles with internal combustion engines. But the difference is not as drastic when it comes to campers. The average fuel consumption for a gas-driven RV is six to 10 mpg that rises slightly to seven to 12 mpg for a Diesel RV. That is about a difference of 18% between the most efficient gas and diesel campers. Of course, if you drive hundreds of kilometers with a doll and filling a tank with a capacity of 100 gallons or sometimes more, 18% may seem like a considerable difference with the gas pump.

However, is it real,? Although it is true that the gas prices fluctuate wildly, diesel fuel is more consistent more expensive. A gas motor, on the other hand, usually goes from 150,000 miles to 200,000 miles. This naturally influences the resale value. It is true that gas campers generally have more horse power. This also means that they can speed up faster, which gives them a small advantage when merging. But how fast your class A can go from zero to 60 km / h is probably not such a big priority for you. It’s not like trying to drag you (please not).

On the Diesel and Pro side for gas side, diesel repairs and maintenance tasks are more expensive than for gas. Take oil changes, for example. Camping World charges $ 329 for oil changes on diesel campers with a maximum of 20 liters of oil, but only $ 169 for an oil change with a maximum of 8 liters of oil on a gas RV. As you can see, oil changes are more expensive for diesel engines, partly because they need so much more oil. But most other repairs to diesel engines are also considerably more expensive. What about doing your own maintenance on a diesel engine? Returning to oil changes, the oil automatically goes back a nice penny. For example, the Cummins ISL -Diesel engine requires 29 liters of oil. If you buy 29 liters of the cheap 15W40 oil (recommended viscosity) from Autozone, you will be restored to more than $ 120. And that assumes that you have the skills to work on a diesel. Only access to the oil cap and filter can be a test. So, do you have to make your next motorhome from a gas or diesel? Consider your needs. If you want to move space to an RV with a ton and plan to set up a lot of kilometers, a diesel class A is probably the better way to go. The same applies if you have to drag a car or boat.
