Former Manchester United -defender Gary Neville has now unveiled his surprise with the transfer trade of the club this summer.
Manchester United has issued a considerable amount to Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Neville did not expect Manchester United to spend this level of money, especially after losing the UEFA Europa League final.
However, he has revealed that Manchester United has clear problems in midfield and the defense. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United can solve those problems before the transfer window closes. They are connected to players such as Carlos Baleba, but a deal for Brighton’s midfielder looks very difficult.
Gary Neville emphasizes Man United Weakness
He said through Mirror: “Mbeumo, Cunha, Sesko – many eyes on them at United. I think fans of Manchester United, including myself, are surprised that they have gone and spent that level of money.
“We thought that the money would of course not be like not to be at that level after the Europa League. So to get those three players, who look like a really good profile – two of them have Premier League experience – we need them to do it right, because the rest of the team.
“We need a keeper. There are absolutely problems with the defense and the midfield. But if the three strikers are a real handful and goals … Last season, United’s return for the goal was very bad, so it is really important that Sesko, Mbeumo and Cunha achieve a really good start.”
Man United has to improve midfield and the defense
They need someone who can control the game from the center of the park and can help it defensively. In the defense they have to invest in another reliable central defender.
They have already spent a lot of money on improving the attacking unit, and it would not be surprising if they had to wait until next summer to improve the other areas of their team. It will be interesting to see if the attacking players can hit the ground and help Manchester United return to the Champions League.
Manchester United certainly has enough quality to insist in a place in the top four, and it will be interesting to see if Ruben Amorim can get the best out of his players.
