Gary Lineker tells Arsenal to sign Julian Alvarez

Gary Lineker has opened up and encouraged Arsenal to sign Athletic Madrid star Julian Alvarez, claiming it would be ‘game over’ for the Gunners Premier League rivals.

Viktor Gyokeres is the club’s top scorer after establishing himself as one of the game’s best strikers, but his five-goal return represents a poor return for a player. ARSENAL paid £64 million last summer.

That has led to much media speculation that Arsenal are very interested in attempting to sign Alvarez for a reported £81 million, with many reports suggesting Madrid will be open to letting the striker leave the club.

Now Lineker has proposed ARSENAL should pursue Alvarez this summer and says his arrival in north London would be devastating for their domestic rivals: “They don’t really have anyone who is scoring the goals on a regular basis,” Lineker said on The Rest is Football podcast after Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester United.

“Gabriel Jesus has come back and scored one or two, but there was a reason why they had to sign a new number 9 in the first place.

‘I love Jesus and I always have. He has a great work ethic, he chases and chases and gets a few goals. He’s a bit streaky: when he’s on, he’s on, but when he’s off he’s a bit of a confident player.

‘It’s probably complete nonsense as most of these things are on social media, but I saw them linked to Julian Alvarez, who I know isn’t entirely happy with life at Atletico.

‘That’s the kind of player who you know can handle big events: he’s a World Cup winner for crying out loud. Such a person at Arsenal would be ‘game over’.

‘But they do need one or two of these current strikers to be able to score on a fairly regular basis.’
