Former World No. 1 Garbine Muguruza expects her first child! The dual Grand SLAM champion shared the announcement with a series of charming polaroid snapshots, including one of himself in a swimming suit from one piece framed by palm trees and another in the arms of her husband, Arthur Borges.
Muguruza, who retired last year at the age of 30 from Professional Tennis, married Borges in an intimate wedding ceremony in Spain on October 5, 2024. The story of the couple comes directly from a novel novel. They happened to meet each other in 2021 during the US Open in the Central Park of New York. Borges, a businessman and model, saw Muguruza while passing, wished her happiness and the connection was immediately. Their relationship became public later that year at the Akron WTA Finals in Guadalajara, when Borges lovingly celebrated the victory of Muguruza during the trophy ceremony.
The announcement quickly attracted warm wishes of the tennis community. Current world no. 1 Aryna Sabalenka wrote: “Congratulations. So happy for you.” Caroline Wozniacki, a mother of three, added: “Congratulations !! You send the very best about this new incredible chapter.” Dominika Cibulkova, a mother of two, shared a sincere and playful message: “Wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu !!! here it comes !!!! I can’t wait for you to experience that sleepless nights, my love! Congratulations!”
Other tennis stars, including Elina Svitolina, Caroline Garcia, Lucie Safarova, Johanna Konta and Angelique Kerber, also sent their congratulations and celebrated Muguruza as she starts this exciting new chapter of her life.
After her retirement, Muguruza took on the exciting role of tournament director for the WTA final at the end of the year.
