Vers, the unlikely victory of last night against the cardinals, the Bewers go for a sweep this afternoon. For reference about how unlikely it was, here is the Fangraphs Win probability chart last night.
The Bewers also achieved their postseason spot for yesterday’s game with a Mets loss, but the victory brought an exclamation mark on the day. With that out of the way, the following goals are in sight for the Brewers. They have a magical number of eight to conquer the NL Central and a first round bye, and a magical number of 11 to guarantee home field advantage in the play-offs.
If you are looking for some pre-game videos to view, there are two for you. Christian Yelich spoke as the leader of the team about what the late season means for everyone. Manager Pat Murphy also read a letter from Bob Uecker, who watches from above.
Taking the hill today for the Brewers will be Jose Quintana. Despite a general positive season, the success of the other starting pitchers means that he has to fight for a place in the late season schedule. Quintana comes from a rough start against the Rangers, where he spent five points in 6 2/3 innings on just four hits and two free running. Almost all of that damage happened in a four-run fifth inning. He kept the Rangers under control for most of the day and threw four perfect innings before the disastrous fifth. Quintana is reliable for a longer start, because he has thrown at least six innings in seven of his last 11 starts. This will be his third start against the cardinals this season. On April 27, he only allowed one point in five innings and was married on June 14 on 27 April for seven points (five earned).
In the meantime, old opponent Miles Mikolas gets the start for the cardinals. This will be his 21st career performance (20th start) against the Brewers. They once confronted him this season, where he spent two points in six innings on 15 June. Mikolas has a career 3.82 ERA against the Brewers and an ERA of 3.07 on the American family field. In general, this season he has an ERA of 4.84 and 4.89 FIP in 28 starts for the cardinals.
After driving in the winning run last night, Andrew Monasterio starts a start at Shortstop this afternoon. Danny Jansen also starts with catcher when William Contreras gets the day off. Murphy stays in any other position with the same starters.
First pitch is set for 1:10 pm CT. It is back on the usual channels after yesterday’s national broadcast. Fanduel Sports Wisconsin and Telemundo Wisconsin will have the TV broadcast, and it will also be in the Brewers radio network as usual.
