In the first game of Friday evening series, the Milwaukee Bewers took a nice, complete victory at the Toronto Blue Jays in a collision of the teams with the best record in every competition. Freddy Peralta was excellent and Milwaukee rode a large inning and a few add-on runs to a convincing victory. Today they will look to take the series in a matchup between Quinn priest and Toronto’s Kevin Gausman, and they will also welcome one of their most important attacking pieces just over a month after his last match.
The last start of priest was pushed back a few days due to a mild wrist injury, but he is going to go this afternoon. He takes up the hill today and goes for his 12th victory, so that he would make one of only seven national competitions to reach that figure so far this season. The last outing of priest was inefficient, but he received results: on 95 fields in 4 1/3 innings he only allowed one point on three hits to the Cubs in a 4-1 win. But the Bugaboo of priest in that competition was walks: he ran five batters, more than in any other start this season.
Gausman, who is 34, has been one of the better pitchers in baseball for the past five years, but has settled a bit in the past two seasons. He is still solid: this season Gausman threw a 3.87 ERA (111 ERA+) and 3.77 FIP and he is in the top 20 in the competition in innings with 153 2/3. But Gausman does not fall out as many batters as he was during his peak years (he already led the already 11.5 k/9 in 2023, a year in which he finished third in Cy Young voices), and the results are a bit matched.
Upon attack, the Brewers will finally welcome the Jackson Chouio, who last played on July 29. The team immediately went on a 14-game extraction streak after he had lost it, but the last few weeks have made it clear that his bat will be needed. Chouio was on a stove when his hamstring injury took him out of the line -up: in July he hit .367/.408/.600 with four gay people and seven Doubles in 23 games. On his return he will immediately return to that number two place in the battle order, behind Brice Turang and for Christian Yelich and William Contreras.
To make room on the Roster for Chouio, the Bewers gave an optimal options from Brandon Lockridge to Triple-A Nashville. Today they also made another move that does not immediately influence the Big League team: Robert Gasser completed his rehabilitation assignment with five innings in Nashville, and today the team has activated him from the 60-day IL, but he has chosen, so he will remain in Triple-A for the time being. He will be an option when schedules are expanding to 28 on Monday. To make room on the schedule of 40 people, the Brewers Oliver Dunn has designated for assignment. All his best for Dunn, an intriguing player who just didn’t work in Milwaukee.
The first throw of today is just after 2 p.m. at Fanduel Sports Network Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
