There is a great sense of youth joy in the tailor -made illustrations and animations by Gaia Alari for musical artists Alessia Cara, Papradio and even Coldplay. In a style that feels intertwined with mythology and fairy tales, Gaia’s texture, elegant illustrations between figurative and abstract with natural movements, weighs. By creating a dialogue between forms, Gaia has a fantastic talent for capturing not only exercise, but how we want our bodies to move. “I believe that art in general is a language that (for those who listen) speaks to a different level than words,” Gaia shares. “It communicates through a process that looks more like digestion, through absorption. The more the questioning and feelings evokes, the easier it is absorbed and the more space the viewer has to project in what they see.”

Inspired by Kiki Smith, Wangechi Mutu, William Kentridge and Yoshitomo Nara, the illustrations of Gaia speak a kind of language that is specific to childhood, especially in the imaginative, kinetic movements of story books or even the drawings of children who are getting into a wicking, floating, who are wicked in Wikkzelelen, who are wrecked, who are wrecked, who are wicked, who are wicked, who are wicked, who are wicked, who are wicked, who are wicked, who are wrecked, who are wicked, who are wrapped in a wrappel, who are wrapped in a wrappel, who are wrapped in a prostrate, who are wrapped in a prostrate -like, who are wicked, who are wrapped in a prostrate, who are wrapped in a prostrate -like, who are wrapped, those who are wrapping in a prostitute. is a great stream of consciousness. “I like going as deep as I can, where emotions are more transparent, less protected,” says Gaia. “At that location they become less clear to identify. They start to merge each other and create a very primary ambivalent connection.” Mythical and archetypal story is important for Gaia, because she absorbs inspiration by the “mysterious and sometimes dark feelings that people could only communicate in folk stories” – for Gaia, her animations encourage the spectrum of feelings that we cannot articulate, so we dance it.
