Olympic gold medal winner Gable Steveson will test himself outside the wrestling mats when he heads Dirty Boxing 4 in Nashville, Tenn, opposite Billy Swanson in the main event of the promotion on 30 October.

Virtue boxing made the announcement on Wednesday.

Steveson (1-0) made his professional MMA debut on LFA 217 and sent Peterson Braden in less than two minutes. The Olympic champion has long been linked to a transition from wrestling to fighting sports, with a switch to the UFC that is expected a lot in the near future.

The match marks one of the most controversial crossovers for the emerging dirty boxing promotion, which has quickly built up a reputation on unconventional matchups and stylistic intrigues.

Swanson, a fight tested heavyweight with experience in the regional MMA scene, is a rugged challenge for Steveson’s debut in this lines network. While the Olympic champion brings athletics, explosiveness and pedigree at the championship level, Swanson Kooi-Tijd, Grit offers and an understanding of how to thrive in high pressure environments.

The matchup not only places decorated wresty royalty against a seasoned hunter, but also raises questions about how Steveson’s skills will translate when his strongest weapon is removed.

The move follows the recent controversy of Steveson with Grappler Craig Jones, after he withdrew from a planned game between the two. While their back and forth caused a number of heated exchanges, tensions seem to have cooled.
