MMA prospect Gable Steveson agrees with Jon Jones that he can and will quickly get a shot at eventually becoming a UFC heavyweight champion.
Although he hasn’t joined the promotion yet, it seems inevitable that Gable Steveson will be part of the UFC family sooner or later. He’s already accomplished some impressive feats in the early stages of his mixed martial arts career, and it certainly seems like the only way is the right way – especially with someone like Jon Jones in his corner.
Right now, the UFC heavyweight division is in a pretty dark place, especially when you consider the current status of champion Tom Aspinall. If they decided to bring in someone like Gable Steveson, and perhaps Rico Verhoeven and Francis Ngannou, it would really help add some star power to the mix.
In a recent interview, Gable Steveson gave his thoughts on Jones and suggested he could become a UFC world champion within a year.

“Yes, I believe so,” Steveson said. “I believe it because I have complete confidence in myself, but with a guy like Jon showing me the way, I feel like my confidence goes through the roof. The best part about it is seeing me firsthand, training with him, hitting the pads and going through all the motions. His word is gold – and if it’s not next year, it will be soon after. It just depends on how the cards fall.”
“I think it’s still true that we’re going slow, but slow in the heavyweight division is fast,” Steveson said. “There are a lot of missing pieces in that division that we have to maneuver through. Like I said, mixed martial arts is a tough thing, so I’m going to take all the opponents and give them the most respect I can.
“Everyone is a great fighter, but I think with my potential, my speed, my technique, my durability, my endurance, whatever, everything – and my wrestling included, it will be something new for people to see. I’m glad people will continue to witness it, slowly now, but it will pick up again soon.”
