Good afternoon and greetings from Dusseldorf, a Fulham fan here, I come in peace.
I visit The Mag occasionally.
Overall I think it’s very fair and balanced.
However, two recent articles were very negative for the sole team in Fulham.
Firstly, it was Saturday’s article ‘Broadcasters cry after making these decisions on Premier League matches’, which mentioned that Burnley vs. Fulham was chosen for live television in Great Britain.
It wasn’t Fulham who decided this match for television and I can assure you that in my local pub in Dusseldorf there were many fans from other clubs watching Fulham’s first win at Turf Moor since 1951.
I also understand that more fans watched that match in that pub than watched the matches on Sunday afternoon.
Secondly, today’s (Tuesday 16 December) article in The Mag, which reports on Fulham fans failing to buy up the full allocation of 1,700 away tickets that our club had chosen (out of the almost 5,000 maximum away allocation allowed at St James’ Park under Carabao Cup rules).
The cup match at St James’ Park is on the Wednesday evening before Christmas at 8.15pm. This means that the match does not end until 10:30 PM.
Frankly, getting 1,500 Fulham fans there on Wednesday is a miracle in itself.
I’ve seen us in Darlington with a few hundred; then I thought that was good!!
If the match started at 7.30pm (as it used to), more fans would have traveled and could have caught the last train back to London.
The fact that the six-hour bus journey is subsidized (€20 adults and €10 children) does not really count. Isn’t the ko time worth mentioning?
Not every club is blessed with the support that Newcastle United has. No doubt you could fill the Putney end with your London-based fans.
However, all supporters have similar problems making ends meet and getting their work done before Christmas.
I hope you accept my comments in good faith.
Wish you good luck with your game [against Chelsea] on Saturday afternoon. Not on Wednesday.
P.S. I think you will see a difference in the away support on Wednesday compared to Saturday. Maybe not in quantity, but as Lee (puzzle) Clark said: quality!
As always, all opinion articles are welcome, from all perspectives. The Mag gives all Newcastle United fans (and Fulham fans!)..
