October is a month of celebration in our family. We celebrate two birthdays, plus fall break and Halloween. This year October was also a month for me with two longer trips, South Korea followed by Uzbekistan. Not optimal, but worth it in the end! I got home to Arlanda just in time for lunch on Sebbe’s birthday and the festivities have been going one after the other ever since.
From Uzbekistan home to two year old children
I realize that everyone celebrates birthdays very differently. In our small family, breakfast has become the most important time of the day. We spend a lot of time and effort on a beautiful table setting and wish a breakfast according to the birthday boy’s wishes. In fact, we open most presents in the morning. Nowadays I can almost step aside because our middle daughter likes to take on the role of party general. She prepared and donated a fantastic breakfast for Sebastian (I got home from Arlanda just in time for sushi lunch)…
…but the next day I had the honor of preparing Nelly’s birthday breakfast. It was a fun task because I brought her SO many nice gifts from South Korea.
I sure love birthdays, but it helps as much nostalgia as it brings. Last Sunday our eldest son Sebastian turned 17 years old. Seventeen!?

Wasn’t he just playing with a stick in the sand on Koh Lanta? Well, indeed he did.

However, on Monday it was the sister’s turn to turn one, this time eleven.

It seems like my body had something to do with giving birth in October. Nelly’s birth was the easiest of all. Third time the fun and all. Now I’m 45 and the thought of more babies feels more and more distant. So I’m ready, and I’m preparing very old in this particular regard, yet there is a bit of sadness in knowing that a chapter in life is closing. The toddler years are over. Beautiful in its own little way – Tobias and I are undeniably in a very different phase than we were a few years ago. Time flies when you’re having funmaybe you’ve heard it before!?
