Fritz is at the top Zverev, Seals Laver Cup for Team World

Taylor Fritz defeated Alexander Zverev with 6-3, 7-6 (4) on Sunday to achieve the Laver Cup for Team World.

The American started strongly in the San Francisco Chase Center before Zverev found his rhythm and set up a late comeback in the second set.

But Fritz corresponded to the intensity and held on to close the game and secure the victory.

“We’re going to have a nice evening,” Fritz Atp.com said before the trophy -ceremony. “Certainly some champagne in the dressing room in a few minutes.”

The victory yielded the cup to Team World’s Andre Agassi in his first tournament as captain and marked the third triumph of the team in four years.

“Just seeing these guys on the couch that is pumped up, see a legend of the sport as Andre who jumps out of his chair that cheers for me, it is impossible not to be fired and just give everything you have,” said Fritz.

Earlier, Carlos Alcaraz de Hoop of Team Europe kept alive with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Francisco Cerundolo from Argentina.

The Win Cut team World’s lead to 12-9 in the first-to-13 event, where every Sunday game was worth three points.

Alex de Minauror of Australia had previously moved the team world within one point of the title and Jakub Mensik 6-3, 6-4 defeated.

The 26-year-old earned seven points for his team at the weekend, after he also defeated Zverev and collaborated with Alex Michelsen for a double win on Saturday.
