Frisco Bay N upsets in opening day surprise

Frisco Bay N (Down on the coast) pulled off a major upset Sunday afternoon in the first Open of the season at the Saratoga Casino Hotel. The opening day card featured fourteen races before a cold matinee in February, highlighted by the victory of the Jackie Greene-trained Frisco Bay N.

Jacob Cutting was behind the six-year-old dismissed at odds of 34-1 in the $16,500 Open Pace and marched into the early lead.

Frisco Bay N posted quick splits of 26.4 and 56.1 in the first half before facing pocket favorite Vanderbilt N (Ron Cushing).

That interloper was the 1-4 betting favorite and evacuated the two-hole behind Frisco Bay N, who teed off three-quarters in 1:25.1 while holding off the favorite’s challenge.

Those two pacers took their battle to the limit, but the long shot would not be denied as Frisco Bay N recorded his first career Open victory, stopping the timer in 1:54 to beat Vanderbilt N by a head.

FRISCO BAY N REPEAT

The Good Doctor (Kyle Swift), nominated for Pacer of the Year at Spa in ’25, finished third in his season debut. Frisco Bay N is owned by Kellogg Racing Stables of Queensbury, NY. Jacob Cutting, who piloted the winner, scored a double in the Sunday matinee.

Live racing continues on Monday with a first post at noon.
