Oh, how many trips there have been this fall! Very nice, but also tiring… We currently feel like we need to be home for a while to gain new strength. Soon the rest of the arm itches again, we know what it’s like…

Home from the last trip of the year

The last trip of the year was to the island of Usedom on the Baltic coast, where we visited the German imperial spas of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin. This was a really fun trip and we feel like we can highly recommend everything about this destination… except forgetting your cell phone in the taxi and missing the ferry home!

That specific part was actually quite difficult, and we thank you for all the nice responses we received. You could say that we “should” have better control, but instead we received nice and encouraging responses that we had managed to resolve the situation. We must say it is heated!

We have had time to tell you about the beautiful island safari in a Land Rover and about two nice spa hotels on Usedom. Our guide will come to the island soon, with lots of tips!

New projects

Now we are home on our houseboat in Stockholm, and it feels very nice. If we had been in charge, we probably would have started with a few days on the TV couch without leaving the house, but it didn’t happen that way. We have several new projects underway, ranging from conference calls to physical meetings at the Uzbek embassy. We will tell you more when the various projects are further along!

Some of our houseboat neighbors have put up nice Christmas lights… As usual, we haven’t had time to repair anything…

Rental car to take us to the camper…

Another thing we had to get our hands on was the camper. When we brought it in for winter storage after the whole soup, when everything in the camper had frozen to ice, we thought everything would be ready, but it was not. We have rented space in the same garage for several winters and we have always had the electricity connected to charge the batteries. So this time too we thought.

However, after a few days we received a text message saying “we pulled the cable because electricity is not included this year due to new insurance rules”. We can’t find anywhere that we were given this information in advance and feel a little cheated, but we don’t have the energy or power to do anything about it.

Gentlemen this means that the batteries had to be disconnected – otherwise we won’t be able to start the camper this spring. The garage is far away and we don’t have a car, so we ended up renting a car for four hours and spending half a day on this “adventure”…

The RV was in its spot in the garage, where we left it a few weeks ago.

Peter disconnected both the car battery and the house battery, and then we drove back to Stockholm…

This week: Thankful for…

This week we are extremely grateful that Peter’s lost mobile phone has been found. We are grateful for all the help we received from ferry terminal staff, hotel staff and private individuals who helped us make phone calls. Oh, how many kind and friendly people there are! We are also grateful that we have managed to return to Sweden with new bookings, without the additional costs becoming too great.

Your turn…what are you grateful for this week?

Next week

Time flies and Christmas is approaching! We are at home in the houseboat and alternate work with various mulled wine and Lucia Mingel. Here at FREEDOMtravel you can expect a guide to Usedom, as well as some content focused on Lucia and winter. We wish you a happy Friday and weekend!
