We are currently on our last trip abroad of the year, and it is nice that it is a relatively quiet trip, in a peaceful environment. It has been a busy year of travel for us this year, we are not going to gloss over that. Quiet beaches in low season, good food and wellness… this is exactly the right trip for us at the moment!

Travel abroad – by train and ferry

This time we did not travel by plane, nor by camper. Instead we went by train and ferry. We took the train from Stockholm to Ystad, where we had dinner in the city before it was time to board the overnight ferry.

We imagined that we would easily find a simple cafe, restaurant or pizzeria, where we could have a beer and eat something simple. It turned out hello Ystad was in town at the same time, at the Christmas market, and every restaurant was fully booked…

We eventually managed to get two seats at Pinchos restaurant, where you sit in a kind of circus-inspired environment and order small dishes via an app. It was both fun and tasty!

Then it was time to hop on the ferry from Ystad to Swinoujscie. We went with Polferries, which worked great. Because we left late and arrived early, we didn’t see much more than our cabin…

In the morning we only had time for a cup of coffee in the bar, then it was time to get out…!

Beautiful and peaceful Usedom

Do you know the island of Usedom? Strangely enough, this island is relatively unknown in Sweden, at least compared to the better known Rügen, but it is a real gem. Usedom is located on the Baltic Sea coast, on the border between Germany and Poland and is shared between the two countries. It’s almost hard to see that it’s all one island, but if you zoom in on the map you’ll see that it really is.

We’ve been here once before, when we came here on a catamaran sailing trip a few years ago, and we really like this place. Coming here in winter is both similar and different. Tourists come here all year round and during this time, when it is even quieter, the emphasis is on relaxation, wellness, spa, food and nature experiences.

We are in Usedom on a press trip and will of course tell you more soon. In the meantime, find more photos and stories at Instagram, at @freedomtravel.se.

This week: Thankful for…

Although we have been feeling tired lately, we are incredibly grateful that we have been able to take so many fantastic trips this year. Last but not least, we are grateful that we have the opportunity to end the travel year with a relaxing winter trip to the lovely and peaceful island of Usedom!

Your turn, what are you grateful for this week?

Next week

We are still in Usedom, but the journey is slowly coming to an end. We arrive home the same way as here: by ferry to Ystad and then by train back to Stockholm.

Here on freedomtravel.se you can of course read some reports about Usedom, which will be mixed with some other goodies. You know you can subscribe to our reports so you don’t miss them? As a subscriber you will receive the report once a week by e-mail, of course completely free of charge.
