FPL notes: Thiago injury update + Dango the pen winner

Igor Thiago‘S (£6.6m) phenomenal season continued on Saturday as he scored 11 league goals for the campaign.

However, the shine of a thirteen-point victory was somewhat negated by an injury in stoppage time for the Brazilian striker.

Here are our Scout Notes from Brentford 3-1 Burnley.

THIAGO INJURY SCARE

Another penalty put Thiago into double figures for the campaign.

It was his fifth converted penalty of 2025/26, which is significantly more than anyone has recorded:

However, take away all his penalties and he’s still up to a decent six goals for the season. Only Erling Haaland (£14.9 million) and Danny Welbeck (£6.6 million), with 14 and seven respectively, it could do better.

Against Burnley, Thiago was again more than just a penalty dealer. He narrowly missed the target in the first half (he insists the ball was deflected), missed with a header in the 54th minute, saw a goal correctly disallowed for offside and added to his 81st-minute penalty shortly afterwards with a predatory second goal.

But in the 91st minute another beautiful afternoon came to an end for the striker. After brief treatment for what appeared to be a muscle injury, he disappeared straight into the tunnel through a conversation with Keith Andrews.

And this is what the Brentford boss said to the internal media after the match…

“Not really, I just spoke to him later and he said it was a precaution. So I’ll find out when I go back in.” – Keith Andrews, when asked if he had an update on Igor Thiago’s injury

No other questions were asked by the BBC, by Sky or in the post-match presser, while we cannot verify any alleged sightings of the striker on crutches. like this one.

We’ll hear from Andrews again before Tuesday’s Gameweek 14 deadline, so hopefully we’ll get an update on the striker then. Considering the next game is away at Arsenal, it might not be a bad game to miss.

LEG DANGO-LONG

Thiago is helped on his way by Dango Ouattara (£6.0 million).

We wrote last week that the winger had won more penalties (three) than any other player in the division this season.

Well, we can get those four now. He was brought down for Thiago’s late penalty on Saturday.

Not content with that assist, he scored a goal in stoppage time to seal Brentford’s victory. He had nodded earlier Michael Kayode (£4.5m) crosses inches wide and now no FPL midfielder can beat him for big chances this season (note that he hasn’t taken any penalties, which are also considered big chances):

Of course, Dango could disappear to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as early as Gameweek 16, so Thiago and others will have to enjoy him while they can.

The Free Hitters who chose Kevin Damage (£7.0 million) continued to curse their luck. The better bet than Dango for game time on paper (the German had played 90 minutes in eight of his last nine games), he had a bit of a stinker, failed to register a shot and was hooked in the 75th minute. That was his first withdrawal of 2025/26…

MORE DEFCON FOR COLLINS – BUT HAUL RECEIVES HIM

Nathan Collins (£4.9m) achieved defensive contribution points (DefCon) for the seventh time in 2025/26 on Saturday.

Collins’ total of 22 clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles (CBITs) against Burnley was actually the most any defender has managed in a single match this season (thanks to TopMarx for that stat!):

Burnleys Maxime Esteve (£3.9m) also now has 14 DefCon points for the campaign. Collins’ centre-back Sepp van den Berg (£4.5 million) is at 12.

However, Collins left some points on the table, with two close-range chances begging:

After nine offensive returns in 2024-25, Collins has yet to break his goal/assist duck this season.

FLAMES ON PENS

A familiar story for Burnley: admirable stubbornness, a lack of goal threat and a late capitulation. The Clarets have frustrated their opponents (Liverpool, Chelsea, both Manchester clubs etc) for a long time this season, but each time they have withered, and Saturday was another addition to a familiar list.

Scott Parker’s team only had a chance in the penalty area Zian Fleming‘s (£5.3m) Penalty in the 84th minute, a penalty that came out of nowhere thanks to a momentary Kayode error.

Flemming, who had previously gone close from distance, has now scored four goals in his last five starts. That’s what you do on a team as blunt as this.

Hannibal Mejbri (£4.9m) should have been shooting rather than diving, but that’s about it from an attacking perspective.

Get those Palace defenders in place for Gameweek 14…
