With the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek 14 deadline just two days away, our Scout Notes are a piece of cake.
This article briefly covers two of Sunday’s games: Crystal Palace-Manchester United And Aston Villa vs Wolverhampton Wanderers.
SARR INJURY UPDATE
Ismail Sarr (£6.7m) was withdrawn in the 38th minute on Sunday after failing to shake off an early ankle injury.
Oliver Glasner has subsequently declared that Sarr will not be allowed to play again before heading to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which starts on December 21.
“We all need to assess him further but the ankle is quite swollen so I think he will miss a few games. We may not see him again for the AFCON.” – Oliver Glasner on Ismaila Sarr
Sarr was spotted on crutches after the match.
We should hear from Glasner again before Tuesday’s Gameweek 14 deadline, so hopefully we’ll get an update on the winger then.
AMORIM ON FERNANDES
In addition to Sarr’s injury, Palace showed clear signs of fatigue in the second half of Sunday’s defeat.
Jean-Phillipe Matteta (£8.1 million) broke the deadlock with a retaken penalty, but Joshua Zirkzee (£5.8 million) equalized after the break and went through Bruno Fernandes‘ (£8.9m) free kick.
The Portuguese then halted Mason Mountain (£5.9 million), who scored the decisive goal from another set-piece.
Fernandes therefore collected the maximum bonus, bringing his Gameweek total to 11 points.
It could also have been more, as we exceeded the defensive contribution threshold (DefCon) by just one difference.
Ruben Amorim noticed he was feeling his hamstring late in the match and quickly downplayed any concerns.
“No, it was a kick. I yelled at him because he has to warn.” [us]. We will eventually make a replacement. He needs to talk to the bank, but he said it was just a kick, so everything is fine.” – Ruben Amorim on Bruno Fernandes
PALACE FATIGUE
As for Palace, there was more profligacy in front of Mateta’s goal as Glasner’s side suffered their first home defeat of the season.
The Frenchman shot wide early on when he was cleared clear after a defensive mix-up, and also missed a few decent chances.
However, fatigue undoubtedly played a role in this loss.
Six Palace players have started every Premier League match this season, simply because their squad is not big enough.
And they have now lost three of the four league matches they have played straight after competing in Europe, with Sarr’s injury only adding to their worries ahead of Wednesday’s visit to Burnley.
“The players are giving everything they can. Today, during injury time, you could see that the legs were a bit tired, the energy level was not at the highest level.” – Oliver Glasner
VILLA CLEAN SHEET
Unlike Palace, Aston Villa have now won all five of their Premier League games immediately after playing in Europe this season.
They have also lost just one of their last 25 home games in the Premier League, with Arsenal the next visitors to Villa Park on Saturday.
“It is our fortress, and we feel it with our supporters here, with our structure, with our energy, with our tactical idea.” – Unai Emery
Of Ollie Watkins (£8.5m) little confidence and in the bank, Donyell Malen (£5.1m) was rewarded for his good form on Sunday with a start up front.
However, he failed to capitalize on this opportunity, even though he managed to register a match-high five shots (see image below).
In fact, from an attacking perspective, Villa were not at the races at all Morgan Rogers (£6.9m) moderate.
Instead of, Boubacar camera (£4.9m) proved to be the difference maker, firing a superb effort into the top corner.
It is also important to mention that Villa have now kept a clean sheet in all their last three home games.
ENCOURAGEMENT OF WOLVES
As for Wolves, they remain winless in all 13 Premier League games in 2025/26, but Rob Edwards will be encouraged by what he saw at Villa Park.
Jorgen Strand Larsen (£6.3 million) had the ball in the net, but it was previously disallowed Emiliano Martinez (£5.0 million) turned Yerson Mosquera‘s (£4.3m) header hits the crossbar.
They also looked a threat when they got the ball in wide areas, with full-backs Jackson Tchatchoua (£4.5 million) and David Moller Wolfe (£4.3 million) during which he threw several dangerous balls into the penalty area.
Next up for Wolves: a home game against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.
Ladislav Krejci (£4.5m), meanwhile missed injury.
