This is especially the case with rookies. Similar to the two examples above, we can often consider rookies dead on arrival if they don’t dominate immediately, or especially if they can’t maintain a role throughout their first season in the NFL. There are countless examples where this has been the case, but there are also examples of when a player takes a little longer to break out or simply adapt to the NFL. Just looking at Quentin Johnston’s third-year breakout this year, or Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s sudden rise to possibly the WR1 dynasty, shows us the need to be patient with a player’s development.
Here are four newcomers who disappointed in 2025 but could easily be on their way to relevance in 2026.
