Kishan played a match-defining innings, picking apart the New Zealand bowlers with his fearless strokeplay and setting the tone for India’s dominant win. His setup from ball one kept the hosts in front throughout the tricky chase.
Speaking about the Jharkhand batting approach, Parthiv highlighted the difficulty of executing such a style in international cricket after a prolonged absence.
“There was never any doubt about his ability. We all knew how he can bat. The question was how he would bat while making a comeback. We are seeing the end product of Ishan Kishan here, but how those two years went, only Ishan Kishan can tell how he worked hard and changed his mindset,” said the cricketer turned commentator on ‘Star Sports’.
The commentator further pointed out that the 27-year-old has worked hard in domestic cricket during his absence from the Indian team and is now reaping the rewards.
“To come back after two years and be picked in the World Cup team, and to bat the same way in international cricket, it is not easy. It feels great when you achieve success after a comeback. We all know how difficult it is to make a comeback. Ishan Kishan has reaped the fruits of his hard work,” he added.
Kishan came into the crease at a crucial stage of the chase, with India losing both openers cheaply. He then built a match-defining partnership of 122 runs with captain Suryakumar Yadav.
Parthiv Patel equates Ishan Kishan’s batting style with Abhishek Sharma
The Gujarat Titans assistant coach further praised the southpaw’s batting style and equated the style with the current No. 1 T20I batsman. Abhishek Sharma for their explosive offside play.
“Every left-handed batsman loves that line. If they get just a little width, it almost becomes a natural shot for them, and so does Ishan Kishan, especially with the technique he plays,” he replied.
It was a rare off day for Abhishek as he stepped on a duck after playing a match-winning knock during the first T20I. Ishan was named Player of the Match for his excellent 76 off 32 balls.
