Could Tony Ferguson meet an old enemy that he stared at for the first time from 10 years ago?
Ferguson brought the headlines last Saturday after winning his first combat sport victory since 2019. After his UFC-Run came to an end, “El Cucuy” went to the sweet science, with Salt Papi at Misfits Boxing Camperie scored a third-round TKO-OMT PAPIT.
In an episode of the “Weeging in” PodcastJosh Thomson discussed the possibility of viewing Ferguson in the boxing ring (H/T Bloody elbow).
“I mean, yes. Possibly,” said Thomson. ‘It’s boxing. I think people should understand that boxing, it’s a lot easier to train. It’s so different. It’s just a lot easier to train for. Lots of jumping rope, lots of bags, running a lot, it is a lot of roadwork … “
Ferguson and Thomson clashed under the UFC banner in 2015. “El Cucuy” won the fight through a unanimous decision. Thomson admitted that it was a rough fight to get through and said it was a reality check for him.
A decade later, Thomson could be used in the world of boxing against his old enemy.
“Maybe that’s a conversation we have,” said Thomson. “I have a relationship with Misfits -boxing. There have been some conversations with them anyway about other fights, but in the end it really comes down to the cream to the top and who wants to fight [and] If we can get the wage well … “
Since February 2017, Thomson has not participated in price fights when he was eliminated by Patricky “Pitbull” Freire. He announced his retirement at the beginning of 2020. Fight fans have seen that Frankie Edgar ended their combat port pension in favor of the Sweet Science, although “the answer” will fight under bare rules.
