Justin Jaynes is running out of chances. The UFC veteran was suspended for 18 months during a meeting of the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Wednesday after testing positive for a cocaine metabolite in relation to his victory over Marlon Gonzales at Tuff-N-Uff 149 on October 25. Jaynes, who is not eligible to compete again until April 25, 2027, was also fined $200, which amounts to 40% of his purse for the fight.

It was Jaynes’ third anti-doping violation in Nevada, but his first positive test for cocaine. Previously, the fighter known as ‘Guitar Hero’ had failed drug tests for marijuana in June 2021 and for the diuretic furosemide in 2024. Although the marijuana test would no longer be punishable under current NSAC standards, the committee nevertheless promised severe consequences for Jaynes if he failed another drug test in the future.

Zero tolerance

“I have a problem, the third drug offense,” said NSAC Chairman Dallas Haun. “I think the proposed arbitration agreement is fine, but I think we should add that if Mr. Jaynes comes back for a drug-related matter, [offense] then he will be permanently barred from the state of Nevada would be my input. The other commissioners agreed to the terms of Haun’s proposal, so Jaynes will face a lifetime ban if he fails a fourth drug test in Nevada.

Jaynes, 36, fought five times in the UFC from 2020 to 2021. After scoring a 41-second technical knockout against Frank Camacho in his Octagon debut at UFC on ESPN 11, Jaynes dropped his next four appearances before parting ways with the promotion. Since then, he has gone 2-3 on the regional circuit, with his most recent appearance coming in the aforementioned fight against Gonzales.
