It’s safe to say that Aljamain Sterling has been a bit more outspoken in recent months. Whether it’s frustrations with the UFC or frustrations with the sport as a whole, the former bantamweight king hasn’t been afraid to speak his mind – which has earned him a lot of respect from some corners of the MMA world.

Looking ahead to 2026, it’s not clear what Sterling’s role will be in the featherweight division. He’s 36 years old, has a 2-1 record, with the defeat coming close to Movsar Evloev, and doesn’t appear to be far away from a belt tear.
In a recent interview, Sterling said the following about his future, which includes a quick shot at promotion.
Sterling discusses his UFC future
“I’m just here for fun,” Sterling told MMA Junkie and other reporters. “I don’t have much time left in the tank, so I have to get it going if I want to try and get another belt. I have to start now. I hope they don’t put me on hold again like they did last year. One fight for the year, that was tough. I would like to get two or three this year. That’s the goal.”
“I would imagine so,” Sterling said of his next fight, depending on the UFC 325 outcome. “I’d like to see Volkanovski win, one of the OGs gets it done again. But to win two in a row against a guy who hits hard like Lopes, it’s tough, especially where Volks is in his career. I see Lopes getting it done, but I’m rooting for Volk and letting the best guy win. I’ll wait there.”
