Former Timberwolves Draft Pick has quietly saved his career in a unique way

In 2016, the Minnesota Timberwolves Kris Dunn set up with the fifth general choice. Dunn would only spend one season with the wolves before he was traded as part of the Jimmy Butler trade. The Providence College product was on average only 3.8 points, 2.4 assists and 2.1 rebounds as a 22-year-old Rookie. Dunn bounced back with the Chicago Bulls, an average of 13.4 points in his second season.

After a three -year term of office at De Bulls, however, Dunn’s career was apparently in danger. From 2020 to 2023, Dunn played 40 total matches with three different teams. In the first two seasons of the 2020s, it seemed that Dunn’s bad shooting and the insufficient attack took him out of the competition.

Nevertheless, Dunn has rejuvenated his career in the past two seasons, culminating in a fantastic season with the Los Angeles Clippers last year. Dunn’s career release is one of the better stories in the NBA. His averages of 6.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists do not jump off the page, but Dunn’s defense made him an important part of a successful clippers team.

Dunn’s Elite defense saved his NBA career

Undoubtedly, the revival of Dunn is connected to his elite defense. The 6-foot-3 guard was always a good perimeter defender, but he has reached a different level in recent years. Impressive, Dunn kept opponents at 43.3 percent shooting from the field and placed a -4.1 defensive on/off -swing.

In addition to an elite circumference stopper, Dunn has the size to monitor opposite wings if necessary. It is very disturbing off-ball, on average 2.1 shares (Steals plus blocks). These skills make him a perfect fit alongside James Harden, and he was an important part of the third ranked defense of the clippers. If it was not for a minute restriction, there is a strong chance that Dunn would have made a fully defensive team last season. The impact of Dunn is usually visible on the defense, but he is also a solid finisher and a binding playmaker.

Although Dunn’s career started a slow start with the wolves, it is difficult not to be happy for him, and his way to finding an NBA role is simply remarkable. It is an unlikely scenario, but it is interesting to think about what Dunn has in this current Wolves team. His defense would fit perfectly with the culture of the wolves. Anyway, he has found a perfect house with the clippers, and even with La’s additives outside the season, the defense of Dunn will keep him in the rotation.

It is not so unusual for players to get into the NBA late, but for former Lottery Pluks this is quite rare. In general, Dunn is one of the best and most unique stories in the competition.
