Former striker sends message to Isak warning Liverpool of deeper problem

In the build-up to Leeds, the growing discussion about Isak took center stage again, even though the problems in our team extend far beyond one player.

Emile Heskey expressed his condolences for the Swedish international during his conversation BBC Sportswhile also acknowledging the struggles that shaped our recent run.

The former Liverpool striker said yes “a tough time” for the No. 9, adding “Moving clubs, going to perhaps the biggest club in the world, and your condition is not yet completely good” makes the transition even more difficult.

He emphasized that further “People are always going to pass the buck and try to figure out who’s going to get us out of this little swamp we’re in.”before insisting on it “everyone [needs] working together as a club, as a team”.

These comments come after Arne Slot defended the £125 million arrival during his press conference before Leeds.

The 47-year-old explained that this is so “clear and distinct” we have to take number 9 with us “more often in threatening situations”adding that it is normal for top strikers at this level to have limited touches.

His point was underlined when he noted that Isak averaged 22 touches in Newcastle, compared to just 14 in his last three league starts for us.

That press conference also included the Dutchman’s memory of elite strikers such as Erling Haaland, who “doesn’t hit the ball 100 times” but put it in “moments when it matters”.

Against Sunderland, the Reds had little attacking threat, even when Mo Salah came on at half-time.

Our equalizer came via a badly deflected effort from Florian Wirtz, and opportunities were once again scarce for the new number 9.

That led Steve Nicol to describe the British record signing as “invisible”although he admitted that most of the blame lies elsewhere.

“Your centre-forward relies on others more than anyone else, and he gets absolutely nothing”.

Its wider point felt accurate. We needed a late own goal to earn a draw, and the best opening of the final minutes actually belonged to Sunderland, before Federico Chiesa’s crucial recovery run.

Liverpool need to increase Isak’s fitness and involvement together

Heskey’s message feels well timed. The 47-year-old pointed out that the condition is improving “While you play in a team that is actually not doing that well” always looks messy from the outside.

Isak was sharp at West Ham and scored, but against Sunderland the strange mix of low involvement and limited service returned.

We fight against bad results, fight against trust and try to bring in several new faces at once. It’s no surprise that the number 9 hasn’t arrived at full strength.

The encouraging thing is that both the expert and our head coach framed the problem as a collective problem.

Liverpool will need to create more, press better and rediscover our rhythm if we want the 26-year-old to achieve his goal. And if we can do that, the goals will follow.
