He will return to court on December 3 after posting $50,000 bail
Former Atlanta Falcons player Jamal Anderson was arrested in Los Angeles on November 5 on suspicion of domestic violence.
According to NBC Los Angelesthe 53-year-old former running back was taken into custody at his San Fernando Valley home after police officers responded to a call around 11 a.m. Police say he was involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical after he allegedly choked the victim.
Paramedics were called to the scene, but the victim refused treatment.
Anderson was released after posting $50,000 bail, according to Los Angeles County jail records. No information was available about any upcoming court hearings.
The New York Post reported that the former Falcons player has a scheduled court hearing before December 3 at 8:30 am
Anderson, whom the Falcons selected in the seventh round of the 1994 NFL Draft, played his entire football career with the Atlanta team. He retired in 2001 after a knee injury.
Before joining the NFL, Anderson, a Woodland Hills native, attended El Camino Real High School in Los Angeles. He played collegiate football at Moorpark College and the University of Utah. Although not a household name, his best season came in 1998, when he rushed for 1,846 yards and scored 14 touchdowns. He earned a spot in the Pro Bowl that season, despite the Falcons’ loss to the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl.
Unfortunately, according to Anderson, this isn’t his first time in trouble with the law WSB TV. He has been arrested several times in Georgia since leaving the NFL.
Police officers arrested Anderson in 2009 for suspected cocaine possession. In 2016, Anderson was accused of exposing himself during a QuikTrip in Gwinnett County, but the gas station clerk declined to file charges, although the former athlete was banned from returning to the premises.
He was then arrested in 2018 after having a dispute with a limousine driver who accused him of not paying the $50 fare. He was arrested repeatedly on various driving under the influence (DUI) charges in DeKalb, Gwinnett, and Hall County.
