There’s death, taxes and Tyson Fury retiring. The former heavyweight champion announced his intention to make another comeback in a recent social media post. Fury’s most recent retirement announcement came in January 2025, following his second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.

“2026 is that year. Return of the mac,” Fury wrote. “I’ve been away for a while, but I’m back now, 37 years old and still punching. Nothing better to do than punch guys in the face and get paid for it.”

On again, off again

Fury also retired from boxing after a win over Dillian Whyte in April 2022, but the decision was short-lived as “The Gypsy King” returned to action in December of that year. The Brit also briefly retired in 2013, 2016 and 2017
all kinds of reasons ranging from canceled fights to wanting to focus on his mental health.

Fury has a career mark of 34-2-1 in the Sweet Science with wins over the likes of Deontay Wilder, Wladimir Klitschko, Whyte and Derek Chisora. According to multiple reports, Fury is keen to fight fellow countryman and former world champion Anthony Joshua. However, Joshua was recently injured in a car accident in Nigeria, so it is unclear when he will be ready to return to action.
