A heritage estate that was once home to Australia’s first Olympian is offering a golden opportunity for buyers in Berwick.
The circa 1854 homestead ‘Burnbank’ has hit the market with a price expectation of $2.3 million to $2.5 million on land that was originally part of Edwin Flack’s former farm.
Flack was Australia’s sole representative at the 1896 Olympic Games in Athens, where he won gold in the 800 meters and 1500 metres.

He was a popular competitor and was called the “Lion of Athens” because of his athletic success.
He later bought the Burnbank villa and surrounding land in Beaumont Rd, Berwick, where he set up a dairy.
Today, the seven-bedroom house functions as a bed and breakfast on 1.09 hectares of land that includes a swimming pool and a gazebo.
It is believed that the original homestead has undergone a Victorian-era renovation and retains stately features from the period, including high ceilings, ornate cornices, fireplaces and handmade stained glass windows.
Flynn Frankston real estate agent Belinda Ragoni said it offered numerous options for buyers on one of Berwick’s most beautiful streets.
