Sol Campbell believes Arsenal’s defensive unit can win the club trophies and said the Gunners ‘just have to win’ this season.
Arsenal sit top of the Premier League ahead of the return of the Premier League next weekend, one point ahead of champions Liverpool. The north Londoners will be aiming to end their 22-year wait for the league title this season after three consecutive campaigns as runners-up.
Campbell believes the strength of Arsenal’s defense can ensure success this season. Mikel Arteta’s side have kept four clean sheets in seven games and have conceded just once in open play in the Premier League.
“[William] Saliba would not have signed the contract [until 2030] and even if he didn’t believe Arsenal could win. They just have to win. This year they have to win by hook or by crook, but you have to work to get lucky,” Campbell said The times.
“I think Jurrien Timber is probably one of the best right-backs in Europe at the moment. He is incredible, can score goals and is good in one-on-one scenarios. He has certainly lost some time with his injury, but he is a top player.”
