Force movement into our golf swing

Force movement into our golf swing

For years, weight shifting terminology dominated golf education. It was a term used to describe the movement of force to your lead leg/foot and the transfer of that force to your lead leg/foot. I would suggest that the concept hasn’t really changed, but the description of how it happens has. It is a topic that many amateurs need to understand in order to create power and consistency in their golf swing. Let’s delve deeper into this topic.

The general idea is to limit the swing and not rotate on a single axis. Our head will remain as still as possible while our body moves in such a way that it applies force during our swing. Take a look at this:

What the video explains is very simple. If you’re old-fashioned, you probably say that what’s described as a power shift is actually a weight shift. I agree with that statement, as long as there is very little swing in our heads during the multitude of swings. It is an interesting topic that does require understanding.

The video below is from 10 years ago. Originally I focused on stance, but it’s a good video showing my lack of power transfer from my trail to the front foot. I have been working on this challenge for many years and I think it is better. To be honest, I still have a lot of work left to master this concept.

Power transfer during our golf swing is very important. It helps generate strength and consistency. As long as we keep our heads still, there is a very good chance that we will master this concept. If you’re not sure if you’re communicating the power of a golf swing properly, I recommend taking a video like mine above and taking a critical look at your movements. You may be surprised at the results.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
