Foden reveals ‘extra motivation’ for the profit of Manchester Derby

Phil Foden said that Manchester City had ‘extra motivation’ for their derby victory in Manchester United after the death of city fan Ricky Hatton.

British Boxing Great Hatton was found dead on Sunday morning in his house, with city that fiddled with the former world champion of super light weight and welterweight and lifelong supporter of the club, prior to the kick -off at Etihad.

Hatton was one of the most striking supporters of City and beat Juan Lazcano memorable on a sold -out Etihad in 2008.

Foden devoted the 3-0 victory of City to their cross-Town rivals, in which the midfielder opened the score for an Erling Haaland Double, to the late Hatton.

“100% I had extra motivation in the game, it was for him and his family and for the people who suffer now,” said Foden with Sky Sports.

“The boys gave everything. It wasn’t a nice match, but it was all for him.”

Foden started a competition file for the first time this season and only took 18 minutes to open his account for the campaign. The 25-year-old said he wanted to prove a point after many ‘negative’ talks about his performances last season.

“There is a lot of talk. It is impossible [not to hear outside talk]. Everything has been quite negative, but that is the world in which we live when you play at the highest level.

“When you come to win the player of the seasonal prize, the standards are higher and I understand that. It’s about reading those comments, responding as well as possible and returning to my level.”
