“What made it worse was the banking sector,” said Ajit Mishra, SVP – research at Religare Broking, in a conversation with ET now. “Private banks did not participate in this recovery at all. Today, with heavyweights dragging, the sentiment was further tempered.”
The Nifty slid under the crucial 24,800-point-the 20-day exponentially advancing average (EMA)-a infringement that traders hoped to avoid. Mishra warned that the index can continue to slide to 24,600-24,630, a zone aligned with the 100-day EMA. “The recovery is derailed. From here, consolidation with a negative bias seems more likely in the coming days,” he noticed.
But it was not all gloomy. In fact, the concentrates stood out, especially in FMCG and cars. Maruti Suzuki rose nearly 2% with strong volumes, scaling record heights. “It seems that Shorts are trapped, and that is further upside down,” explained Mishra. In addition, FMCG -Biggies such as Hul and Nestlé succeeded in keeping their land, while Marico, Godrej Consumer and Britannia also remained resilient.
“Even if the market weakens, FMCG and Auto shares must continue to surpass. The momentum in shares such as Maruti, TVS and Eicher looks intact. I would keep a close eye on Hul, Britannia, Britannia, Britannia, Marico and Godrej Consumer,” Suggered Mishra.
On strategy he advised the balance – being exposing on both sides of trade. “Godrej Consumer has binded back smartly and even keeps himself in the profit while taking phases.” With the index under the critical support, more pressure is likely.
