The HBCU National Tennis Championships 2025 took place from 18 to 21 in the South Fulton Tennis Center in Georgia, which bring together student athletes of historical black colleges and universities (HBCU) throughout the country.

The event continues to serve as an important opportunity for HBCU tennis programs to compete in the fall, to build team chemistry and Crown National Champions in both singles and doubles.

Open for all HBCU institutions, the championship welcomed 12 HBCUs, with 22 programs for men and women and almost 200 players. The tournament format makes individual and team competition possible, giving players the opportunity to test their skills and prepare for the coming spring season.

Florida was well represented in the women’s stretch, with Florida A&M finished in 5th place and Bethune-Cookman University in 9th place. Both teams showed a strong effort and promise, especially with younger players who gain valuable competition experience.

Bethune-Cookman Head Coach, Chris Wollett shared his thoughts about the performance of the team in a Article on the website of the team. “I was really proud of how the Wildcats participated this weekend,” he said. “It was good to see the first -year students competing, and it was nice for them to have a few victories in their first lecture tournament. I am excited to see them developing as we get closer to the spring season.”

In addition to the competition, the HBCU -nationals also mark the unofficial start of the autumn season for many programs. With this event behind them, the Florida HBCUs will now return to Florida and prepare for upcoming tournaments at Stetson University, ITA Regionals and other collegial events during autumn.

The HBCU National Tennis Championships remain an essential part of the HBCU tennis calendar and offer a platform for student athletes to compete, connect and proudly represent their schools. For the HBCU programs from Florida, the event was a strong start to the season and a valuable experience for both players and coaches.
