Flames Sunday Census: Opening Night Roster Management Thoughts

Flames Sunday Census: Opening Night Roster Management Thoughts

4 minutes, 4 seconds Read

NHL’s regular season opens on Wednesday for the Calgary Flames while playing the Edmonton Oilers in the first of three episodes of the Battle of Alberta. The Flames completed their schedule at the end of last week, making some decisions better than others by fans.

The team continued to stick to their experienced documents again and decided to do some young prospects at a distance, and lost defender Ilya Solovyov to the Colorado Avalanche. Although the Flames schedule is very similar to last season, there have been some Rookies who got the nod.

This week we wanted to know what fans thought of the opening roster management of the Flames. We asked, you answered.

What do you think of the schedule management of the Flames to start the season?

We have presented the poll below to our readers:

More good than bad

About 45% of fans who responded to this week’s survey thought that Flames Management was doing more well than bad. The Flames have been busy this preseason and recently expanded head coach Ryan Huska with two years, Dustin Wolf with no less than seven years and Connor Zary with three. Not to mention the extensions of Mikael Backlund, Adam Klapka, Justin Kirkland, Dryden Hunt, Joel Hanley and Kevin Bahl I probably leave a little away.

Sam Morton, Martin Pospisil and Morgan Frost. Okay, I think that’s all. In summary, the Front Office of Flames has been busy since the end of last season and for the most part is committed to the future. Great progress has been made to protect young talent on reasonable contracts and verbal obligations to make those players earn opportunities quickly.

To open the season, the Flames have two rookies on their selection in Zayne Parekh and Matvei Gridin, both 2024 first round concept choices. Parekh was someone fans assumed that the kinking evening would get, but Gridin was drawn up from the USHL only 15 months ago. The 19-year-old player Junior for the Shawigan Cataract last season and won the QMJHL Sidney Crosby Rookie of the Year Award. It has been proven that Flames Management is behind their word and their exciting young prospects have opportunities at the NHL level.

To a certain extent …

More bad than good

The second in our poll was just on the other side of neutrality this week. More bad than well collected this week about 35% of the votes. The flames have shown improvement in their willingness to become younger, but they cannot shake the mentality that is washed away before the new can come forward.

It is a shame to do the flames a few solid, young skaters at a distance last week, with Solovyov and Rory Kerins who will hit the thread on Tuesday. Fortunately Kerins made it and stay with the AHL Wranglers, but Solovyov was quickly grown up by the Colorado Avalanche.

The Flames will certainly miss the 6’4 ”defender in their system. The loss rays even more when you consider that the team chose to stay with a struggleing Danill Miromanov instead. The decision and the risk, the shipping of kerins, however, made Flames fans up to which Ryan Huska’s thoughts are to cut here.

So, instead of finding space in the top 9 for the prospect that produces at a point-per game pace when you wear a Flames sweater, do you prefer to lose it completely? That’s ridiculous, I’m sorry.

The extremes

About 10% of fans who responded to this week’s poll thought that Flames Management did great, while 10% don’t know what they are doing. With equal ends of the occupied spectrum, it seems as if our poll resulted in a very flame result, confusion about expectations.

55% of people think that the team is generally doing well, while 45% think they have room to improve. The grid choices made to start the season will certainly not be hanging until game 82. I am sure that Kerins will have his chance with the Flames, as well as Yan Kuznetzov, Hunter Brzustewicz and Ivan Prosvetov.

All in all, it seems that we are on our way for a typical frustrating, mediocre season for Flames fans. At least we have to see some new faces.
