Flames expected to receive ‘can’t miss’ trade offer for Coleman

The Calgary Flames would prefer to keep Blake Coleman on their roster, but Pierre LeBrun of TSN notes that they cannot commit 100 percent to keeping the veteran moving forward. Noting that Calgary General Manager Craig Conroy “might get an offer he can’t say no to,” no door is being closed.

LeBrun added: If a deal comes together that makes it crazy, and given the interest there is in Coleman, a trade is not only possible, but perhaps likely.

The Flames want to get younger and transition their roster. Coleman – the same can be said for Nazem Kadri – will be an interesting piece that teams will ask about ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline. “This one might go to the extreme,” LeBrun says.

Blake Coleman Flames trades

Coleman has 10 teams he can go to, and it’s unclear how flexible he will be with his roster. Montreal is rumored to be interested, but Elliotte Friedman reports he’s not convinced that will happen. Darren Dreger added: “If there is interest from Montreal or another team, you pay a premium, you pay too much to move that player out of Calgary because that’s how respected he is by the Flames.

LeBrun noted about the Flames and how they’re approaching a potential Coleman trade: “They’re all set to keep Blake Coleman, he’s a key leader in that locker room, but they can’t say that 100%…”

Friedman suggested that Tampa Bay makes a lot of sense, assuming they feel like they can reach the playoffs and make a push.

As for how Coleman feels about a trade, Friedman added: “I think he’s pretty happy to stay, to be honest. I don’t think he’d be upset about staying in Calgary.”
