A father told about his horror after an incurable brain tumor was diagnosed with him, just a few days after his son became one.

Elliot Godfrey, from Waddesdon in Buckinghamshire, suddenly started to experience migraine in March after a family vacation in Mexico.

But the 42-year-old rejected the headache as merely the stress and fatigue of being a new father.

It was only when his friends noticed his discomfort during his son, Aein’s, first birthday party that they encouraged to seek medical help.

After his symptoms deteriorated, he was rushed to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

In April, scans revealed that he has a high-quality glioblastoma-one of the deadliest types of brain tumors.

Typical treatment plans for the ‘aggressive’ cancer – which stands out every year about 3,000 British and 12,000 Americans – sees patients before chemo and radiotherapy.

This is still the same way as it was treated in the early 2000s.

Mr. Godfrey, an ex-professional golfer who now owns a golf simulation company, has now undergone surgery to remove 95 percent of the tumor, as well as weeks of debilitating radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Reminding his devastating diagnosis, he said: She [the doctors] gave me a 20 percent chance that I could die from surgery.

‘Sitting there with my family, that was clearly pretty devastating and pretty scary.

‘I googled it and the first thing I saw was a photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Terminator.

“They literally called it the” Terminator cancer ” – the survival percentage and the reality of life with this hit really hard.”

He added: ‘When I got home, my son Aein’s one -year birthday balloon was still there.

“I was sitting there and I thought,” Shall I see two, will I see four? “

‘I just want to be here for him for as long as possible.

‘One of the most difficult things is that you process it yourself and also see all the people you like to go through trauma.

‘You feel a bit guilty, as if you have abandoned everyone.

‘I am incredibly lucky that I have my network around me. I didn’t think I could love my wife Jess more, but how much she has been in front of me every day is overwhelming.

“She was already the love of my life, but she got up one or two.”

Diagnosed patients are usually undergone surgery to remove as much tumor as possible.

This is followed by daily radiation and chemo medicines for about six weeks, after which the medicines are scaled back.

Radiation can then be used to destroy extra tumor cells and treat those who are not good enough for surgery. But the cancer can be doubled in size in just seven weeks.

Mr. Godfrey is currently approaching the end of his six -week Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy course, but is also tirelessly investigating the following steps.

Last month, Mr. Godfrey launched one Gofundme Page To raise money to undergo experimental treatments and so far raised more than £ 141,000.

He hopes to undergo two treatments in Germany that offer ‘shine of light’.

Both have shown promise in clinical examinations at an early stage, but still have to be approved for routine use on the NHS.

One, tumor treatment fields, uses a cap of batteries that worn 18 hours a day to disrupt the cell science division.

The other, dendritic cell vaccine therapy, rearranges the immune system to attack cancer cells.

“The GoFundMe page was something that was quite difficult to do because I hate to ask for help, but it has restored my faith in humanity,” said Godfrey.

“You read about all the bad things that happen in the world, but people are nice and people want to help each other.”

He added: ‘I absolutely do everything I can do to increase my chances of long -term survival.

‘Because of the attitude of my professional sport person, I made this in my life.

‘I went on a diet, I am running, I train.

‘We have to keep our foot on the gas – I try to take myself as far as possible in the expected survival as I can, because I can’t tolerate it to think how long I have been.

‘Doctors say that if they didn’t have my notes, they would not believe that I had a glioblastoma.

“I feel for someone with a glioblastoma, grade four, not – gemethylated, wild type, I do pretty well – just try to retain positive energy and kill them with kindness.”

The average survival time for glioblastoma is between 12 and 18 months, according to the charity of the brain tumor. Only 5 percent of patients survive five years, says it.

The disease killed the Labor politician Dame Tessa Jowell in 2018.

In March 2022, the wanted singer Tom Parker died even after a battle of 18 months with phase four glioblastoma.
