Trav Noonan identifies a few horses to track for Wednesday’s Twilight Meeting in Mornington

Racing heads to Mornington on Wednesday with the staging of a 7-race twilight event. Many of the local trainers are considered difficult to stop at Mornington, but one trainer, or should I say trianers in particular, with a strong profile is that of the Malua Racing trio of Leon and Troy Corstens and Will Larkin. Over the last three years they have fielded a total of 21 runners on the Peninsula course for six winners with a 28% win rate and an impressive return on investment of 55.2%. They have two participants with Imzada-Race 3 and Supergrace-Race 4.

I expect the track to start a Good 4 and be upgraded during the meet. Track position of plus 4 meters The entire circuit should see leaders at an advantage and not at a disadvantage compared to the rail.

Below are the horses we have identified as the key players for the meeting.

Race 1- No. 3 Good Lord, I

Now difficult to suit in recent races and was a game on speed at Pakenham when just beaten by Left Hook. That race scored well for this and should get favors here in terms of speed with a powerful J Maskiell in the saddle. He just needs to maintain his form to make this difficult to maintain.

Race 2 – Natural ruler #2

Ran well here three starts back when he closed well behind Giggenbach at 2000 meters and has since gone badly at Geelong on cup day when ruthless late money jumped on the betting favourite, then freshened up and ran a much better race at Cranbourne behind Black Peppermint when he was a mile back and made decent ground on a day that was hard to gain ground. Now that J Mott is getting started and the cards are much closer here, it’s time for him to make good on that promise. It seems like an ideal setup for him to get into the winner’s circle.

Race 5- No.1 Let’s face the music

Racing in good form this prep with a good effort fresh at Bendigo in a good form race on cup day and then was not far away at Cranbourne in a much tougher race last when beaten by just 2.8 lengths by Hearcomesthestar who has since backed up the form with a strong run in the Saturday class. This race has much less depth than that and with the claim for Olivia East he does very well at just 57kg. Should park outside the leader White Bear here and prove too good for this, surprised he isn’t much shorter given the lack of depth in the race.
