First King Of Steel foals appear at Tally-Ho Stud

Tally-Ho Stud has welcomed the first foals of a permanent stallion King of steel who enjoyed their first days outside.

There was an individual out of Hairpin, a Bernardini half-sister to Dewhurst Stakes (G1) winner Intense Focus, who was described by the O’Callaghan family as a ‘strong quality colt’. Hairpin is the dam of four winners led by Dadoozdart, winner of the aforementioned Martin Molony Stakes for Noel Meade.

A filly reported by Tally-Ho as “another quality representative” is a half-sister to Spycatcher, a multiple Group 3 winner and runner-up in the Prix Maurice de Gheest (G1) for Karl Burke. Her dam, Damask, is a daughter of former Tally-Ho stallion Red Clubs and a half-sister to Group 1-winning two-year-old Zafisio.

King of Steel was a brilliant second Auguste Rodin in the Derby (G1) and then landed the King Edward VII Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot. Later third in the King George (G1), he gave Frankie Dettori a famous British farewell when he claimed the Qipco Champion Stakes (G1) at Ascot. The son of Wootton Bassett stands at Tally-Ho Stud for an advertised fee of €15,000.

He was bred in Kentucky by Bonne Chance Farm and sold to AMO Racing UK for $200,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
