A week after reaching the semi -final of a WTT Champion Series event, Kanak JHA of the US pulled the biggest day of region at the Europa Smash. Jha, currently world no. 31, upset World No. 17 Other Lind. Jha, who seems to play the best table tennis of his life, was twice behind losing the first and third games, but JHA dominated the last two games that end the match 11-5 and 11-6.
In a similar script two a week ago, JHA now goes on to another player who was up in the same round. World No. 32 Simon Gauzy achieved World No. 26 Lin Gaoyuan. Gauzy and JHA will now be confronted on Tuesday in the Tour of 32 – and both have already secured $ 6,000 USD at prize money and 90 ranking points.
Elsewhere in early action, Omar defeated Assar Quadri Aruna and will then be confronted with Lin Shidong. OVTcharov eliminated Xiang Peng (a second Chinese loss in the first round), and Luxemborug’s Luka Mladenovic had a surprising victory over Kirill Gerassimenko from Kazakhstan. Only half of the trek was played on Sunday, so 16 games still have to be played in the opening round. Hugo Calderano, Felix Lebrun, Patrick Franziska and Triels Moregard are among the big names that can still be seen.
