Finland took an early lead over a Power Play, but the United States found a way to climb back and bind the game in the second period. The third period immediately saw two goals, and then it calmed a bit later in the period in which Finland took the lead for the third time. Finland held up for the last minutes and achieved the 3-2 victory About the US blue.
Summary
Aatos Koivu, the son of Saku Koivu, first got Finland on the board with a power play goal for only a few minutes at the start of the game. Leo Tuuva and Aron Kiviharju helped him to set up their team 1-0. That was the only goal of the period, but there were many penalties in the first 20 minutes when USA Blue took three and Finland took one.
The second period saw the momentum waving in the direction of the United States, and it only took a few minutes in the period. Cole McKinney scored the goal and was assisted by Henry Brzutewicz and Aidan Park to bind the match 1-1. The rest of the period also continued scoreless, and only one penalty taken by Koivu for Finland, his second of the game.
The third period saw a goal of each team in the first five minutes. The first goal was scored by Finland’s Roope Vesterinen, who led his team for the second time. Heikki Ruohonen recorded the only assist. USA Blue answered less than a minute later to the Power game with a goal from Kamil Bednarik. Luke Osburn made the only assist to bind the game 2-2 with more than 14 minutes in regulations.
Koivu responded almost eight minutes later with his second Power-Play goal of the game to set up his team 3-2. Kiviharju and Tuuva each recorded their second assists of the game on that goal. That turned out to be the winner when Finland won the 3-2 victory over USA Blue. Both teams are tomorrow, Tuesday July 29, and will resume the game on Wednesday, July 30, but US will be one team instead of splitting into two.
