It is the last day of the World Junior Summer Showcase, and there were two games on the schedule on Saturday afternoon, August 2, both rivalry games. The first was between the Nordic countries of Sweden and Finland, and both teams had a great showcase prior to the last day. Both teams had players in the lead in points, and it was certainly a great game with a lot of tension.

Petteri Rimpinen was in the net before Finland, while Carl Axelsson was in the net for Sweden. The game started with a lot of back and forth action as expected between these two teams. Finland jumped into a lead over the Power Play and Sweden had to fight back. Both teams fought hard, but Finland took the 3-1 win.
Summary
It was a very even matched first period with both teams that had strong opportunities, but it was Finland who first scored. Heikki Ruohonen achieved a Power-Play goal to give his team a 1-0 lead late in the first period. Aatos Koivu and Kasper Pikkarinen helped him, and that was the only goal of the period.
The second period started faster than the first, and it was Finland on the Power Play for the second consecutive time. Roope Vesterinen scored the goal, Daniel Nieminen and Jasper Kuhta helped him to bring the score to 2-0. It took most of the period, but Sweden answered their own Power Play. Jack Berglund scored the goal, his fourth of the showcase. He was assisted by Mevlin Fernstrƶm and Liam Danielsson to bring the score to 2-1. That was the ultimate goal of the period, and Finland took the lead to the third.
The third period was a close struggle with opportunities for both parties, but the goalkeepers turned out to be strong and the penalty kill also stepped up. Finland’s Vesterins added an empty net goal to seal the victory. The only assist went to Ruohonen. Sweden gave it all, but Finland was in charge and achieved the 3-1 victory.
This was the last day of the showcase of a week, which means that both teams will go home for the rest of the summer. When the hockey season officially starts, they will be with their respective regular seasonal teams until December, when they join this schedule again when they are selected.
