For the first time, Ukraine has acknowledged that the Russian army entered the Dnipropetrovsk region, a central administrative area that was previously saved from intense fights.
“Yes, they have arrived and fighting has been going on from now on,” Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for the DNIPRO Operational Strategic Group of Forces, told the France-Presse-Presse-Presse news agency.
Russia first said that his armed forces had been implemented in the region, who did not submit a formal territorial claim in July. Since then it has claimed to have recorded some settlements there.
In a separate statement, the general staff of Ukraine of the armed forces rejected the claims of Russia that the villages of Zaporizke and Novohrodivka completely caught.
But Battlefield Monitor Deepstate, who has close ties with the army of Ukraine, said on Tuesday that Russia had “occupied” them.
Preparations for ‘further progress’
The Russian army “now consolidates its positions and collects infantry for further progress,” it added in a post on social media.
Russian troops are slowly but steadily winning in expensive battles for largely destroyed areas in East and South -Ukraine, normally with few inhabitants or intact buildings.
Dnipropetrovsk is not one of the five Ukrainian regions – Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Crimea – who publicly claimed Russia as its own territory.
Peace Talks Stall
The concession from Ukraine that it has lost ground for the first time in the region comes as a momentum for a possible peace agreement.
After US President Donald Trump met both Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zenskyy and aroused the hope for a breakthrough, Russia has since excluded an immediate encounter between the Russian and Ukrainian leaders.
Putin demands that Ukraine withdrew from a certain territory, it still checks as a condition for stopping his invasion of requirements rejected as a non-starter in Ukraine.
