Jackie Greene’s trainee caused a major disappointment in the season’s first Open Pace of the year, contested early this month. The six-year-old scored at odds of 34-1 on the opening weekend, but followed that big effort with a couple of difficult trips that led to him being beaten by more than fifty lengths combined.
Saturday afternoon, Shawn Gray picked up the catch drive behind Frisco Bay N, who started from post four in the six horse class.
Gray flashed speed with the New Zealand-bred pacer pressed almost every step of the way as he recorded fractions of 27.1, 56.4 and 1:25.2. Captain Caveman (Jacob Cutting) made his debut at the local Open and held the pocket of Frisco Bay N throughout before finishing in second place to Frisco Bay N, who remained in the lead with a score of 1:54.4 in the $16,500 Open. Rebellious (Chris Long) earned the show spot in the pacing feature for the second week in a row.
